The purpose of this study is to prepare the basic data and direction for the prediction model of dental caries in 12 year old Korean at rural area. We had basic oral health survey of 107 school children and questionnaire survey. We sampled stimulated saliva from examined persons. We analyzed the predisposing socio-environmental factors to dental caries and performed the selective incubation for mutans streptococci and lactobacilli via dip-slide method, SL and MSB agar. We put the data from oral health survey, questionnaire and selective incubation to SPSS/PC and evaluated the results.
We concluded that, a) in socio-environmental factors, the frequencies of snack food had correlation with the DMFT index (r=0.27, P<0.05), b) in saliva factors, the CFU of lactobacilli (r=0.47, P<0.001) and mutans streptococci(r=0.30, P<0.05) had correlation with DMFT index. c) the object tooth number of oral health surveys for prediction model of dental caries in 12 year old persons at rural area was 7 6 5 2 1 at upper teeth, 7 6 5 at lower teeth.
